Can I drink the water in Mazatlán?

Can you drink the water in Mazatlán?...depends on the water. -we highly recommend that you only drink bottled water. -we also recommend that you brush your teeth with bottled water. -many hotels purify their water, but why take the chance. -you can buy bottled water at any convenience store. -if you are staying for a longer vacation, you can by 5 litre and 10 litre bottles at the big grocery stores(see our page on Grocery stores) such as Mega. Usually it is way cheaper to buy the larger bottles of water than the smaller sizes (1 litre or less). -if you are renting an apartment, there are water vendors that sell water in the huge plastic jugs...not sure what the price is for these. -many of the locals use filters on their taps with the municipal water. Unless you are a local we don't recommend that you drink this water. -The bars and restaurants buy purified ice cubes so you are ok with buying drinks with ice in them. -many bars and restaurants will put their drinks (e.g. beer cans, water bottles) in large ice buckets. This ice is usually purified and comes in large blocks. unfortunately, they usually drag the ice on the ground and chop it up so it probably isn't totally clean. To be completely safe, wipe the tops of your beers or bottles before drinking. If you do get the runs (e.g. Moctezuma's revenge) we highly recommend that you drink lots of pediatric electrolytes. This is a syrupy drink like gatorade. You can buy pediatric electrolytes at any drug store. The main problem people have when they get the runs is that they get very dehydrated. If you are dehydrated, go see a doctor. Many hotels have a doctor on call that you can use...or look at our doctors page.
